Whinlatter Forest Park Mountain Biking Trails
Whinlatter Forest Park mountain biking is home to the longest purpose built trail in the Lake District which is often described as the best in the area. A good level of fitness is needed and experience required to take on the Red grade routes.
The routes pass through some of the UKs most stunning landscapes and you are treated to view of the Lakes and mountains as you reach an altitude of 500 meters on the Altura trail.
At the start there is plenty of parking, a visitors center and mountain bike hire / servicing for all your riding needs. (More details on the bike hire below)
There are 2 main trails, on which is split into 2 distinct loops.
- Quercus Trail – grade blue, 4.6 miles, a newly built route that is a flowing singletrack with some technical features, rolling jumps and gradual climbs. Good for intermediate mountain bikers.
- The Altura Trail, North Loop – grade red, 6 miles, a single track trail with steep climbs, fast descents, jumps and the option for some more technical (black grade) features.
- The Altura Trail, South Loop – grade red, 5.5 miles, an initial long climb to start followed by a fast flowing descent dotted with natural features.
