Sandwood Bay in the far north-west of Scotland is one of Britain's most remote and beautiful wild-camping destinations — a vast beach reached only on foot.
What to expect
A spectacular mile-long beach backed by dunes and a sea stack, with no road access — reached by a four-mile walk in — making it a classic wild camp under Scotland's access rights for those willing to carry everything. It is utterly remote, exposed and unforgettable; leave absolutely no trace.
Getting there car-free
This is deeply remote: the nearest railhead is Lairg, far to the south-east, with very limited onward transport to Kinlochbervie and the trailhead, so a car is realistically needed.
Can you wild camp at Sandwood Bay?
Yes, under Scotland's access rights — camp responsibly, carry out all waste and be entirely self-sufficient.
When is the best time to camp here?
May, June and September; come fully prepared for fast-changing weather.
