St Abbs and Eyemouth on the Berwickshire coast form one of Britain's best shore-diving areas — a voluntary marine reserve with clear water and rich marine life.

What to expect

Clear, cold North Sea water over kelp forests, gullies and walls teeming with life — wolffish, lobsters, soft corals and seals — much of it accessible from the shore as well as by boat. Being a marine reserve, it is well protected. Cold water and surge mean sensible planning.

Getting there car-free

The nearest station is Berwick-upon-Tweed, with a bus or taxi to St Abbs and Eyemouth.

Shore or boat diving?

Both — St Abbs is famous for its shore dives, with boat trips also running from Eyemouth.

When is the best time to dive here?

Late spring to autumn for the best visibility and warmest (still cold) water.
