Plymouth Sound and the south Devon coast make up one of the UK's premier diving areas, with wrecks, reefs and the country's first National Marine Park.

What to expect

A mix of wrecks, drift dives and reefs in relatively clear, sheltered water, with plenty of operators and easy access. Sites range from shallow reefs for newer divers to deeper wrecks for the experienced. Plymouth Sound is now designated a National Marine Park.

Getting there car-free

Plymouth has a main-line station, with dive operators and boats based in and around the city — one of the more accessible dive hubs in the country.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — sheltered reefs and a wide choice of operators make it a good place to start, with deeper wrecks for when you progress.

When is the best time to dive here?

Spring to autumn for the best visibility and conditions.
