Glen Coe is one of Britain's great mountaineering arenas, and the pyramid of Buachaille Etive Mòr at its entrance is among the most iconic peaks in Scotland.

What to expect

Classic ridges, rock routes and winter climbs on peaks such as Buachaille Etive Mòr, Bidean nam Bian and the Aonach Eagach — the last one of the finest and most serious ridge scrambles in Britain. These are big, steep mountains with full winter conditions, for experienced hillwalkers and climbers.

Getting there car-free

The nearest station is Fort William, with buses through Glen Coe on the A82 to the trailheads.

Is the Aonach Eagach for beginners?

No — it is a serious, sustained and exposed Grade 2 scramble with no easy escape, for confident, experienced scramblers.

When is the best time to climb here?

Summer for scrambling and rock; winter for experienced climbers with the right skills and kit.
