Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), at 1,085m the highest peak in Wales, is one of Britain's most climbed and most rewarding mountains, with routes from gentle paths to the famous Crib Goch scramble.
What to expect
A choice of routes, from the straightforward Llanberis Path to the exposed Grade 1 scramble of Crib Goch on the Snowdon Horseshoe. A mountain railway reaches the summit, but the high ridges are serious in poor weather, and Crib Goch is a true mountaineering line rather than a walk.
Getting there car-free
The nearest mainline station is Bangor, with buses to Llanberis and the Pen-y-Pass trailheads; the Sherpa'r Wyddfa bus links the main paths around the mountain.
Which route is the hardest?
Crib Goch — an exposed, knife-edge scramble for experienced and confident mountaineers only.
When is the best time to climb it?
Late spring to early autumn; winter brings full Alpine-style conditions to the ridges.
