The Manacles, off the Lizard in Cornwall, are a notorious reef system and one of the finest dive sites in England, rich in wrecks and marine life.

What to expect

A dramatic reef of pinnacles and gullies that has claimed many ships, now draped in soft corals and jewel anemones with abundant life, plus numerous wrecks. The site is tidal and exposed, so it is usually dived by boat on slack water and is best suited to experienced divers.

Getting there car-free

The nearest stations are Penmere and Falmouth, with dive boats operating from the Helford and Falmouth area.

Is it good for beginners?

It is better for experienced divers, being tidal and exposed; newer divers are better starting in more sheltered spots nearby.

When is the best time to dive here?

Late spring to early autumn, on slack tides for the calmest water.
