Blackpool Wakepark is the only cable wakeboard park in Lancashire — set on a 10-acre spring-fed lake at Weeton, in the Fylde countryside between Blackpool and Kirkham. It opened in 2018 and serves the north-west catchment between Manchester, Liverpool and the Lake District without the drive to Scotland or Wales.

What to expect

A full-size five-tower cable with a basic obstacle park — kicker, slider, occasional pop-up features. The lake is a good size and well-sheltered by the surrounding park. The beginner cable runs at slower speeds for first-time learners; lessons cover absolute beginners through to intermediate trick coaching. Full kit hire is included in lesson prices.

Practical notes

Open April through October. Wetsuit: 3/2 summer, 4/3 from September. Bookings via the Blackpool Wakepark website. Blackpool itself has plentiful B&B, hotel and self-catering accommodation. Combine a wakeboarding session with the seafront, the Pleasure Beach, or a Lake District day-trip 90 minutes north. The site has a cafe and changing facilities — basic but functional.

Who it suits

Blackpool Wakepark is the only cable wakeboard park in Lancashire, on a lake at Weeton in the Fylde countryside. It suits beginners and improvers, and its central location makes it an easy ride to fit into a Blackpool visit.

Getting there car-free

Blackpool Wakepark is out in the Fylde countryside at Weeton, so reaching it is more of a journey than the name suggests. The nearest station is Kirkham & Wesham, on the line between Preston and Blackpool, with a taxi covering the last few miles to the lake.

Quick answers

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes. Beginner sessions with coaching and gear are aimed at people new to wakeboarding.

Can you get there without a car?

Yes — train to Kirkham & Wesham, then a short taxi to the lake at Weeton. Its rural setting means it is less car-free-friendly than the name suggests.

When is it open?

The cable season runs broadly spring to autumn; check the calendar and book ahead in summer.
