South Coast Wakepark is a cable wakeboarding centre set in the historic moat of Hilsea Lines, on the northern edge of Portsmouth in Hampshire. It runs a 200-metre straight-line cable — among the longest on the south coast — alongside stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and raft-building.
What to expect
The straight-line cable suits beginners and improvers alike, with the operator setting the speed to match the rider, so first-timers and experienced wakeboarders both get a good session. The sheltered setting in the old fortified moat keeps it usable in conditions that would close more exposed water. Sessions are instructed and kit hire is available; the minimum age is around six.
Getting there car-free
Being on the edge of Portsmouth, the wakepark is easy to reach without a car. The nearest stations are Cosham and Hilsea, both close by on the Portsmouth lines, with frequent trains from Southampton, Brighton and London. From either it's a short bus or taxi to the Hilsea Lines site.
Can you get to South Coast Wakepark without a car?
Yes, easily. Train to Cosham or Hilsea, then a short bus or taxi to the moat. Its city-edge location makes it one of the more accessible cable parks on the south coast.
