North Devon Wake Park is set on a lake near Bideford in north Devon — one of the few cable wakeboard parks in the south-west and the natural choice for riders within reach of Barnstaple, Exeter and the north coast surf beaches. It opened in 2015 and has built a solid learner-to-intermediate rider community.

What to expect

A full-size cable alongside beginner straight-line cables, with a graded obstacle park — kicker and slider — for progression. An aqua park on the same lake gives non-wakeboarding friends something to do. Full kit hire included in lesson prices. The park focuses strongly on first-time riders, which makes the atmosphere more friendly than at the dedicated obstacle parks further south.

Practical notes

Open April through October. Wetsuit: 3/2 summer, 4/3 from September. Bideford, Barnstaple and Westward Ho! all have B&B and self-catering options. Bookings via the North Devon Wake Park website. Combine with surfing at Saunton, Croyde or Woolacombe for a full north-Devon weekend. The cafe on site is decent; changing facilities are basic but functional.

Who it suits

North Devon Wake Park suits beginners and improvers in the south-west, on a lake near Bideford. As one of the few cable parks in the region, it is the natural local choice for learning to wakeboard without a long drive.
