Wakeup Docklands is a full-size cable wakeboard park in the middle of London — set in Royal Docks, a few minutes from the ExCeL Centre and the Emirates Air Line cable car. It's been the proof since 2014 that you don't need to leave the city to wakeboard, which has built up a strong commuter rider community.

What to expect

Two Sesitec System 2.0 cables — a beginner cable and an obstacle cable for more experienced riders — with a graded obstacle park — the obstacles change through the season as the park progresses. The dock water is colder than the inland gravel-pit venues but is well-maintained and tested for safety. The site has views across to the river and Canary Wharf, which makes the sunset sessions in summer particularly worth doing. A learner cable runs alongside.

Practical notes

Open April through October. Bookings via the Wakeup website — weekday evenings get busy with after-work riders. Full hire of board, wetsuit, helmet, impact vest is available. The cafe and bar on site stays open later than most cable parks. Wetsuit thickness: 4/3 most of the season — the dock water stays cold. Closest tube/DLR is Royal Victoria, two minutes' walk.

Who it suits

Wakeup Docklands suits everyone from first-timers to advanced riders working the obstacles, with beginner sessions and coaching alongside the full-size cable. Its setting in the middle of London makes it the natural choice for a quick after-work or weekend ride.

Getting there car-free

This is about as car-free as wakeboarding gets. The park sits in the Royal Docks, served by the DLR at Royal Victoria and Prince Regent and by the Elizabeth line at Custom House, all a short walk away — no car needed at all.

Quick answers

Do you need experience to wakeboard here?

No. Beginner sessions on the cable, with instruction and gear, are designed for complete first-timers.

Can you get there without a car?

Yes, easily — it is one of the most transport-accessible wakeparks in the country, minutes from the DLR and Elizabeth line.

When is it open?

Cable parks are seasonal, typically running from spring into autumn. Check the park's own calendar and book sessions ahead in summer.
