Wakeup Docklands is a full-size cable wakeboard park in the middle of London — set in Royal Docks, a few minutes from the ExCeL Centre and the Emirates Air Line cable car. It's been the proof since 2014 that you don't need to leave the city to wakeboard, which has built up a strong commuter rider community.
What to expect
A five-tower full-size cable with a graded obstacle park — the obstacles change through the season as the park progresses. The dock water is colder than the inland gravel-pit venues but is well-maintained and tested for safety. The site has views across to the river and Canary Wharf, which makes the sunset sessions in summer particularly worth doing. A learner cable runs alongside.
Practical notes
Open April through October. Bookings via the Wakeup website — weekday evenings get busy with after-work riders. Full hire of board, wetsuit, helmet, impact vest is available. The cafe and bar on site stays open later than most cable parks. Wetsuit thickness: 4/3 most of the season — the dock water stays cold. Closest tube/DLR is Royal Victoria, two minutes' walk.
