Xtreme Wake is a cable wakeboarding and watersports centre at Grendon Lakes, set in 150 acres of Northamptonshire countryside between Wellingborough and Northampton. Alongside cable wakeboarding it offers boat wakeboarding and wakesurfing, an inflatable aqua park and stand-up paddleboarding, making it a good all-round watersports day in the East Midlands.
What to expect
Wakeboarding runs in 15-minute session slots, on the cable system or behind a boat, so it suits beginners taking a first lesson as well as riders wanting boat time to work on tricks. The inflatable aqua park and paddleboarding broaden it into a day out for mixed groups and families on a large, sheltered lake.
Getting there car-free
The nearest railway station is Wellingborough, about five miles away on the Midland Main Line from London St Pancras, with a taxi covering the last stretch to Grendon Lakes; Northampton is a similar distance on the other side.
Can you get to Xtreme Wake without a car?
With a short taxi. Train to Wellingborough on the fast line from London St Pancras, then a taxi to Grendon Lakes. The rural setting means the final few miles need a cab.
