About UK wakeboarding

Cable parks
built for our weather.

Cables run reliably whatever the conditions, which matters in a climate like this. Beginner sessions, freestyle nights, learn-to-ride packages — the UK has more cable parks per square mile than almost anywhere in Europe.

Planning your wakeboarding

Common questions,
answered briefly.

Who is UK wakeboarding for?

Anyone who can swim and is comfortable being towed across water — cable parks have learner cables that run at slow speeds with no obstacles, so absolute beginners stand up in their first lesson. Progression to obstacles, kickers and the full-size cable systems happens naturally over a season of riding. Boat-towed wakeboarding has a steeper learning curve and is the less common entry point.

Cable park or boat-towed?

Cable. The UK's cable parks are world-class — Liquid Leisure (Windsor), Foxlake (East Lothian), Wakeup Docklands (London) and a couple of dozen more — and they run reliably in all weathers, all season long. Boat-towed riding needs a private group, a boat and good conditions and is much more expensive per session. Most UK riders ride cables and never touch a boat-tow.

Where can I go wakeboarding in the UK?

Cable parks are spread across the country — Liquid Leisure near Windsor and Heatherton near London are the obvious south-east options; Foxlake near Edinburgh covers Scotland; New Forest, North Devon and Kernow Adventure cover the south-west; Manchester, Sheffield and Hetton cover the north. Most are 30-45 minutes from a major city.

When is the best season?

April to October at most cable parks; some run May to September only. Foxlake, Wakeup Docklands and Liquid Leisure all extend their seasons either side of that with shorter days. Cable parks are weather-resistant — wind doesn't stop a session the way it would on a boat-tow.

What gear do I need?

Cable parks rent a full kit — board, wetsuit, helmet, impact vest — included in most lesson prices. Once you're riding regularly, your own wetsuit (3/2 summer, 4/3 from September) and a personal board pay for themselves within a season. Helmet and impact vest are non-negotiable on most cable systems.
